Laura's Bio

I turned to yoga in 2002 when I was working in a therapeutic day school. Due to burnout I began having insomnia, and gave yoga a try. I started doing 15 minutes every night, which turned to 15 minutes every morning and night. Soon enough, I was hooked on yoga and sleeping like a baby!

After moving to Seattle in 2003 I started attending classes, and decided to dedicate more of my life to yoga. I am trained in YogaFit Level One, YogaFit Seniors, and I earned my 200-hour and 500-hour certifications from the Samarya Center. My 500-hour certification allowed me to start practicing Integrated Movement Therapy®, which is a type of Yoga Therapy developed at the Samarya Center by master's level therapists.  I have also completed over 50 hours of anatomy training with physical therapist and yoga teacher, Julie Gudmestad and an 108 Anusara Immersion at Seattle Yoga Arts. I am Reiki (level 1 and 2) attuned as well.

I earned my masters in Child, Couple and Family Therapy from Antioch Univeristy in 2007. My work in therapeutic settings has allowed me to work in psychiatric hospitals, group homes for people with developmental delays, a therapeutic day school, a preschool and a community mental health center.

After graduate school I become interested in deepening my knowledge of Thai yoga, and began studying with Eric Spivack. I have completed 95 hours of Thai yoga training.

As a yoga teacher and a therapist, I enjoy meeting students wherever they are in the process of yoga. I bring joy, compassion and heart into my classes and sessions.
