What is yoga therapy?

There are many types of Yoga Therapy currently available. I practice a type of Yoga Therapy developed at The Samarya Center called Integrated Movement Therapy®. It is a holistic approach to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual blocks. It is for everyone! Integrated Movement Therapy® believes in three overarching philosophies:

1. The student is already perfect and whole.

2. The student and therapist are unlimited in their potentials and their abilities to heal.

3. No part of the body/mind/spirit complex, and no part of the brain, works alone.

Integrated Movement Therap® (IMT) is different than other Yoga Therapies because of its strong foundation in neurophysiology and clinical experience. IMT® is different from traditional forms of therapy because of its focus on what is right with the individual rather than taking a pathologizing approach.

IMT® is an individual experience for each student. I do not believe in prescribing poses in order to fix something. There is nothing broken that needs to be fixed. The therapist and student work in partnership and are in a constant state of discovery and reflection of what is healing and nourishing for that particular student.
